April 20 is the day in 1889, when Adolf Hitler was born. I don’t follow conspiracy theorists, however someone dear to me said they believe that President Trump intends to declare federal martial law on Sunday, April 20. Gulp. Deep breath. I ask myself, What Is Mine To Do, in this moment? My self-reply?
Write this post today. OK. I am writing this post on April 19th, the day in 1775, when the first gunfire which sparked the American Revolutionary War, began with the Battles of Lexington and Concord; the beginning of the open conflict between the American colonists and British troops, marking the start of the colonies' fight for independence from British rule.
Ralph Waldo Emerson in his 1837 poem "Concord Hymn", wrote:
"Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world."
The impact of the American Revolution rippled globally, inspiring other movements for democracy and self-rule.
Today you might recognize what is happening in the US of A as ‘rippling around the world’, and maybe see what is happening as inspiring people in the USA, and around the world to organize for democracy and self-rule in their countries.
April 19th, Saturday, is recognized, also, as National Garlic Day.
I’ve learned today that garlic is a member of the lily family, which includes onions, leeks and shallots.
What is garlic used for?
Where does it grow?
Who cares?
All interesting questions, eh?
Some purported uses:
fights off colds and flu
treatment for acne and warts
treats toothache pain
Where does it mostly grow?
China - approximately two-thirds of the world’s garlic - about 46 billion pounds per year
Who cares?
Apparently a whole bunch of people. Although there's no official "garlic fan club census," hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people around the world use and likely love garlic—especially if their cooking traditions are any indication.
So this weekend?
Empathy Pool 3rd Sunday Zoom Session
Beginning of the American Revolution
National Garlic Day
Adolf Hitler’s birthday April 20, 1889
I’ll tie these all together right now:
Not really. Connecting “dots” of data? Making connections? Maybe.
Do you have a favorite from 1, 2, 3 or 4? Why? Comment if you like.
I’ll be celebrating tomorrow with the Empathy Pool, connecting with my older son, and eating food prepared by someone else.
How about y’all?
Until next we meet, dear ones, be well…
